It's Tuesday night, just gone 10pm.

Is anyone watching the National Zoo panda cam on the animal planet
website?

http://animal.discovery.com/cams/pandavidr.html

I observed the mother holding the cub in her arms and licking his face
for quite a few minutes, then she got up to go outside and left him,
and the way he looked, like a rag doll, got me wondering if he's ok (I
remember in the past that other panda mothers have accidentally
squished their offspring).

What seems really odd is that the camera(s) on the baby panda in the
indoor area are not showing him now, and they're only showing the
mother, outside, eating bamboo.

He only weights 6 pounds. I hope he's ok.

the DC zoo pand cub appears to be progressing
in a healthy manner.

a giant panda behavior mother will normally either coddle
a newborn or push it away and reject it. The only
incident I've read about where a giant panda mother
accidentally squashed her newborn was when the mother
was scared/frighten by humans visiting the exhibit
- keeping the giant panda cub and mother away from
visitors and public exhibition minimizes that risk.
